Sandwich 1: The review

So, I had the sandwich for lunch today. I was really pleased with how well it kept overnight... I wasn't sure about how the avocado was going to perform. Review: less than stellar. The onion really threw me off and was too strong to enjoy. This could be for a few reasons:
  • Too much onion (the recipe called for 1 tbsp... I guestimated)
  • Onion wasn't fresh - I cut one up last week(ish?) for something else that I have now forgotten... do onions get more pungent as they age?
  • I'm not really a red onion fan since I grew up on Sweet Vidalias.
That said, I really liked the crispness of everything in the sandwich - the snow peas and the radishes were nice. The goat cheese definitely gave it a distinct flavor. Tomorrow I'm going to trade out the onions and add the sprouts I mentioned. We'll see...

Sandwich 1

Back in October, Real Simple had an entire spread about fabulous sandwiches. If I take the time to make a sandwich, it's usually something very boring. Turkey+boring. Awful - and 20 minutes to eat lunch and supervise insane 6th graders is bad enough.

The spread really inspired me to make my own sandwiches and really love them. Here's my first try. I hope it's good:

Avocado, Radish and Snow Pea Sandwich

Depending on how it tastes, I am really considering adding bean sprouts to it for Tuesday's turn.

Feed me!

Everyone seems to make New Years Resolutions... they usually involve losing weight, eating healthier, being nicer to our bodies... yeah - about that...

Instead of being boring and going for those typical things, I decided that I'd much rather eat much more interesting meals instead of worrying about being uber healthy. I figure that the more fresh ingredients in my diet, the better - so here is this blog.

Plus, I just got a new iPod touch and am pretty obsessed with its capabilities, including having a pretty awesome camera. So, I'm going to document the food I make - at least until it becomes boring. My goal is to have a new sandwich (for school) every week, but we'll see how that actually pans out.

Feel free to follow me on my journey, or don't - whatever. I'll be eating and loving it, and hopefully not pulling a Julie/Julia project where I go crazy and gain weight :)
